A Message To the Healers
To the healers and all those who stand with those who need healing, this is going to be a difficult day. Take care of yourself. The sorrow is real, and many will grieve with you and among you today.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to sit with a group of young women who felt the effects of the decisions made locally and nationally. Teens who cannot yet vote expressed despair about decisions being made at the ballot box, which will affect them for years to come. Some expressed fear of returning to school today. They feared increased racism and hate by those who have been fed a steady diet of vitriol from their families and the media that they have consumed.
Today as you sit with you clients and provide space to hold thir grief and their pain, don’t forget to take care of yourself as well. We know the importance of filling our tanks so that we can be present for others. So, today, tomorrow, and the next day, take walks, meditate, and nurture your body and mind. Reach out to others for support as you are extending support to others.
Thank you Brene Brown for the encouragement “Don’t shrink, don’t puff up. Just stand your sacred ground. Show up and let yourself be seen.”
